L-3 Valmarine announced today that it has appointed John Egil Gilje as vice president and director of sales and marketing, effective April 1, 2011. Mr. Gilje will report directly to Finn Inge Langeland, managing director of L-3 Valmarine.

With more than 18 years of international management experience, Mr. Gilje most recently served as the director of sales and marketing at Bjørge Marine Automation where he had operational responsibility for the company’s worldwide sales activities. He was also responsible for the development and operation of the company’s business activities in China.

The new 306 m long cruiseliner Carnival Breeze will be equipped with L-3 Valmarine’s new Integrated Automation System.

L-3 Valmarine has been awarded a new order for the new technology platform VALMATIC Platinum™. Carnival Breeze, the third ship in the 130.000 GRT Carnival Dream class, the largest cruise ship for Carnival ever constructed, has been selected to be equipped Carnival_Breeze
with L-3 Valmarine’s Integrated Automations System (IAS) based on the VALMATIC Platinum™ platform. Jointly developed by the L-3 companies Valmarine of Norway, Lyngsø Marine of Denmark, SAM Electronics of Germany and APSS of Italy, the Platinum product series feature a combination of true networked architecture supporting the complete portfolio of navigation and automation systems. The use of modular components ensures multiple levels of usability and scalability.

The Platinum series features system-wide adoption of standardized hardware and software components, providing improved quality and reliability of operation, while simplifying ship management and maintenance procedures

In addition to the Machinery, PMS and HVAC automation system delivered by L-3 Valmarine the complete delivery from L-3 Marine & Power Systems also comprises a NACOS Platinum Integrated Bridge System from SAM Electronics and auxiliary systems and sensors, engineering, cabling, installation and console production from APSS.

The order includes an option for a further Carnival Dream class ship.

The new 3,646-passenger and 306 m long Superliner Carnival Breeze is under construction at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. The vessel will be delivered in May 2012.
